Can you see the smile that is beaming through this post? Well, that's because it's time to get into the kitchen ring and put up your spatulas! That's right, it's Burger Battle time! And I've been invited again to taste the talents of Sacramento's best.
A big burger love hug to Rodney Blackwell! If you don't know whose brainchild it was to bring the battle to Sac, read this great article about Rodney, and say hello to him when you see him amongst the crowd.
"The fourth annual Sacramento Burger Battle, held at Cesar Chavez park in downtown Sacramento raised over $30,000 for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) through ticket sales, sponsorships, raffle tickets and merchandise sales. Pangaea Cafe, a local beer cafe in the Curtis Park neighborhood of Sacramento, took top honors with the judges to take home the championship belt. The People’s Choice Award went to last year’s judges champion, Dawson’s Restaurant inside of the Hyatt in downtown Sacramento."
Congrats to last year's winners from Pangaea, "The winning “Rossi’s Delight” burger from Pangaea Cafe was a classic burger topped with house made pickles, thinly sliced onions, lettuce and fresh tomatoes on a toasted brioche bun spread with a special sauce." Bring the best you got for 2016, and good luck to all the competitors at this year's Sacramento Burger Battle!
TO GET YOU IN A BURGER BATTLE MOOD
The time of the year is upon those of us blessed enough to be called parents of school-aged children. There is still time for a summer bbq, or a picnic by the water, but our immediate culinary concern has been shifted to making sure there are available foods for the mini-scholars when they arrive home from a full day of the 3 Rs.
My head is spinning getting ready for this weekend. So, I'm taking a moment to catch my breath, and enjoy the moment. I am looking forward to seeing family. My kids have grown up so fast, I wonder who will recognize them.
My earliest memories with my dad are at the lake. Just dad and me. I know dad would spend the whole evening before getting his tackle box ready, weights, string, bait. The cooler was being stacked full of all the appropriate lakeside treats. My job, simple. Get in the truck.
The lyrics have a complex meaning. A mother's job can be complex, but does not have to be complicated. Take the time to reflect, and smile for a job well done.
I have a bagful of plastic eggs that I'm loading up with classic jelly beans. Every year I think I might jump ship to something more creative, healthy, inspired...but I spring towards the classics.
For me, India brings about a series of fascinating feelings for the food and its connection to the culture. Famous is the rich heritage of philosophers, saints, and artists who have created a legacy of contributions to knowledge, love, God, and the meaning of life.
I was walking through an aisle at my local store, and couldn't help but notice the many holiday items that were discounted. At first, I began to shudder at the amount that I paid before the 25th, all the while trying to resist the temptation to add to the boxes of decoration that will soon be placed into storage. But it also inspired my thoughts to a recent post I had come across that creatively reused those many candy canes that lingered around my home. It's title, "WATCH WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU PUT KAHLÚA IN PEPPERMINT ICE CREAM SANDWICHES".
Last night I had a small group of friends over to share a new series of wines I had acquired in Winters, CA. Because of the small gathering, I had a selfish thought for how popping the cork of multiple bottles would be a shame if they are not completed in one sitting. Am I alone in this mindset? If only there was a way to enjoy each without leaving them to waste. Luckily, a box had arrived in my office from Coravin….this years HOT Christmas gift.
As the crowds mass in front of a theater in a galaxy not to far away, I can't help but scream, "Ice Cream!"
It's okay to nerd out with your friends, but is your experience complete without Star Wars Ice Cream?
