Back to Basics

Once upon a time there was a little girl, who liked a little boy.  The boy shared in her feelings and so on February the 14th, the most romantic day of the year, he worked up the nerve to reveal himself.  He spent the whole night before cutting, pasting, gluing, and writing.  He threw countless cards away, until finally, he had made the perfect valentine.  The red paper was smudged from glue, the pink hearts were slightly crooked, and inside it simply read: “Be mine?”  Proud of his masterpiece, the little boy ran to school that day, and waited nervously for the end of the day when the valentines would be passed out.  When the time finally came he passed out all of his cards, except one.  His heart began to pound as he walked toward the little girl, and shyly held his hand out.  The girl smiled in disbelief, her eyes lit up, and she knew that she had found her one true love.  To her the card was perfect, nothing could have taken her breath away more, and when she read his simple words her day was complete.  Someone loved her, and nothing could be more romantic than that.
Right?

If you just read this innocent documentary of youth and are feeling a little ashamed of what “being romantic” has come to mean to you, join the crowd.  This year, let’s start to think!  Here are some examples that will hopefully lead you in the right direction when it comes to giving and receiving on February 14th.

If you see a photo op that reminds you of the first vacation that you and your significant other first took together – take the picture!  Use the picture as a post card and write a memory on the back, or frame it for their desk at work and add a romantic caption to the bottom.

Make a romantic dinner.  Start with a salad that includes beets shaped as hearts.  Drink pink lemonade or a beautiful merlot, and be sure to include a table setting that screams romance! (Visit our website at www.bringingithome.com for more recipe ideas).
Send something to your significant others place of employment.  It doesn’t matter if it is a dozen roses, lunch, or a sweet card, the gesture will make him/ her feel special and brighten his or her day.

Plan a surprise trip for two!  Even if it is to a beautiful hotel in the area, it will be fun to get out of the house and be somewhere new.  (See feature article).

Recreate a date or a special trip inside of your house!  Play the same music, wear the same tux and decorate accordingly.

For those on the receiving end, take time to really appreciate the gesture and allow yourself to be romanced.

Remember that saying “I love you” and showing him/her that love go hand in hand.  Remember to say it.

Keep it Fresh!
