We can get along. Never more should we think of food as our competition. No more Man versus Food. Foodies are brought together and in the process are making change. So is the purpose of a great festival, like the Eat Real Festival we recently attended in Oakland, CA.
A well spent Sunday, all the activities sounded so fun. Have you seen an Oyster Shuck-Off? Festival-goerscompeted to see who could shuck the most oysters in a five-minute challenge. For the family? You should have seen the Kids’ Blender Battle! Each smoothie whiz paired with a kid from the crowd and whipped together amazing conconctions and claim the title of Smooth Operator.
Now in its sixth year, this event is in support of the Food Craft Institute, with the purpose of feeding the mind and body of foodies while the well spent dollars go to a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching budding entrepreneurs and artisans how to build successful food businesses. Sound to us like a win-win. Well, if raising $510,000 in revenue for their vendors, and over $80,000 for the Institute is what you call a victory! Great event and much appreciation to the organizers and the hundreds of volunteers.
